Why Put CBD in a Mattress?

Cannabidiol, most commonly known as CBD, has been a hot topic of debate in recent years. Despite the controversy surrounding CBD, there are indications that it may have some health benefits, though research is still inconclusive.

In 2018, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of Epidiolex, a CBD based oil, for treatment of epilepsy. The U.S. Farm Bill was also enacted in 2018, which legalized hemp cultivation - so long as it contains no more than 0.3% THC, the psychoactive compound found in the marijuana plant.

Today, many herbalists and conventional physicians prescribe CBD to their patients. Some conditions CBD is being used to help treat include anxiety, inflammation, depression, and addiction.

With more people using CBD, the market is expected to grow exponentially in coming years. According to research conducted by BDS Analytics and Arcview Market Research, the US cannabidiol market will generate revenues above $20 billion by 2024.

Much of this growth will be attributed to the emergence of new products and the increased uptake of CBD-based products. Due to its diverse applications, CBD has found its way into cosmetics, the food and beverage industry, and more recently, mattresses.

Why Put CBD in a Mattress?

Everyone loves a good night’s sleep. It’s incredibly important to get enough sleep as it plays a vital role in your physical and mental well-being. Without it, your concentration and productivity will suffer while the risk of depression and other health conditions increases.

Unfortunately, there are people who have trouble sleeping due to reasons such as chronic pain, stress, or anxiety. As a result, they end up relying on various products to help them get better sleep, some of them being CBD-based. This is why the founders of ZBD Bed decided to develop a CBD-infused mattress that we hoped could help people sleep better.

CBD and Sleep

To understand the logic of developing a CBD-infused mattress, it’s important to know more about the compound. Cannabidiol is a substance that occurs naturally in hemp plants like marijuana. However, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, CBD does not have psychoactive properties, meaning it does not cause a high.

Though research on cannabinoids is still in the early stages, some early evidence suggests that it may have properties that can help people sleep better.

Anxiety and Stress Relief

At times life can present unexpected challenges that stress you out. When you’re stressed, anxious, or worried, it can be difficult to sleep. This is why there’s a strong relationship between chronic stress and poor quality of sleep.

In a study conducted on individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) in 2010, it was found that cannabidiol can help alleviate symptoms of social anxiety. Researchers observed changes in blood flow to the regions of the brain associated with anxiety. As such, the study showed that cannabidiol does not only change how the brain responds to anxiety, but the participants also felt better.

In one particular case study, researchers tested whether cannabidiol can alleviate the symptoms of anxiety-provoked sleep disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It was observed that the child's (who had a history of trauma) anxiety levels reduced, allowing her to sleep better.

CBD and Pain Relief

Falling asleep can be difficult if you’re in pain. Millions of Americans suffer from pain, and 63% of those with chronic pain report having difficulty sleeping, according to the National Sleep Foundation.

In different studies, it has been observed that cannabidiol has anti-inflammatory properties and can offer some pain relief to people with arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and chronic pain.

How Does the CBD-Infused Mattress Work?

The ZBD mattress is composed of three layers of foam and an outer fabric cover. The three layers of the foam core offer a pressure-relieving, temperature responsive, cooling, comfort later, a durable, high-density layer to reduce motion when you or your sleeping partner shift in bed, and a durable, high-density supportive base layer to ensure you sleep comfortably in a mattress that will last.

The fabric cover is infused with CBD isolate. The technology used to infuse CBD in the fabric is patented and allows the isolate to penetrate through one additional layer of fabric, meaning that you don’t have to forgo sheets to enjoy your CBD-infused mattress.

Are CBD-Infused Mattresses Effective?

The CBD industry is relatively young, and not enough research on the compound has been conducted. However, preliminary data suggests that it does have some health benefits. Though research on the effectiveness of CBD-infused mattresses is yet to be conducted, customer testimonials suggest that it works.

One of our customers, who has two herniated discs in her neck and would always wake up with pains and aches, told us that she’s been sleeping better and feels no pain or aches in the morning since buying her queen-sized ZBD bed.

If you’re having trouble sleeping due to pain, stress, or anxiety, a CBD-infused mattress may be just what you need, especially if you’ve already tried CBD and liked how it worked for you. See the ZBD Bed to learn more and see if a CBD-infused mattress is right for you.
